LifeFile, version 8, is a multipage, interactive PDF file that is Windows and Macintosh OS compatible. It allows you to record, edit and store, important individual and family financial, household, insurance, medical and personal information, as well as end-of-life decisions, using Adobe Acrobat Reader.

The idea for LifeFile™ arrived in the middle of the night fifteen years ago. I was having trouble sleeping because my 69 year-old father had been diagnosed with terminal cancer and I was extremely worried about his care and business affairs on the farm 90 miles away. As we moved him into our home, I suddenly needed information on everything; from his farm records and monthly bills, to health insurance and the IRS. At times it was difficult for my father to communicate and that made locating important information a challenge.

It would have been a tremendous time saver and stress reliever if there had been a simple resource that listed personal, family, financial or health information; where it might be located, who to call or people who knew where that information could be obtained.

In our post-9/11 world, where our security, identity theft and natural disasters seem to be commonplace in the news, LifeFile has evolved and matured to become that ever-important resource for ourselves and our families.

With Adobe Acrobat Reader you can complete and store your LifeFile on your computer; even with password protection. Version 8 is updated and expanded in a number of areas. It now helps you remember websites and your online account information. Hopefully, within the not-too-distant future, you'll be able to complete and store your LifeFile on an e-reader. If you're more comfortable with paper and pencil, just print out the pages and complete them manually.

LifeFile is dedicated to my father. Please take time to complete yours, as well as the Emergency Medical and ID cards. The ID cards let family and friends know where your LifeFile is stored.
